Five Jews were arrested today in Haifa for what police charged was an attempt to blow up a British warship.
Police reported the sabotage attempt was discovered during a search of the oil dock at Haifa’s port. Under a pier, a diver found the broken end of an electrical wire which he followed for 80 yards underwater where it was attached to a 50-pound canister of explosives. The canister was fitted with an especially constructed metal cable leading to a concrete pile just under the surface of the water.
A British destroyer had recently been refueling close to the vicinity of the explosives. The arrested Jews were believed to be the crew of an oil barge lying a few yards from the canister.
Two illegal Palestine Arab “armies,” the Najadda and the Futuwa, will be merged shortly, it was reported today. The differences between the two groups are reported to have been reconciled at a meeting with the ex-Mufti of Jerusalem at his home in Alexandria.
The settlers of Rukhama Doroth today protested to the local British district commissioner against the fact that valuables which disappeared from their homes during a recent raid by British troops turned up in the Arab black market. They were promised an investigation.
