Five thousand persons witnessed the laying of the cornerstone of Temple Emanu-El and the Abraham M. Fabian Memorial Hebrew School on April 21.
Louis Marshall, Vice-Chancellor Vivian M. Lewis, Mayor John V. Hinchcliffe and Rev. David S. Hamilton, of St. Paul’s Episcopal church, spoke. Jacob Fabian, donor of the school and chief contributor to the building fund of the temple wielded the trowel.
Children of the temple school sang and Rabbi Charles I. Hoffman, of Oreb Shalom synagogue, Newark, offered the invocation, Rabbi Max Raisin of Temple B’nai Jeshurun, this city, delivered the benediction.
Telegrams of congratulation were received from President Hoover and Governor Larsen.
A public tribute was paid Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Fabian at Hotel Alexander Hamilton Sunday evening by officers and members of Temple Emanu-El in appreciation of their benefactions.
The couple were presented with a gold scroll plaque inscribed with a list of their many gifts to the temple. (Continued on Page 4)
