Swollen by returns from the “flight” tax, inaugurated in 1931 by the republican regime, the Nazi government’s treasury receipts continue to soar, it was reported today by the Berlin correspondent of the daily telegraph. The receipts from April to July were more than $25,000,000, compared to approximately $33,000,000 for the whole of last year.

The correspondent estimates that since 1931 the Reich treasury has been enriched by about $125,000,000 from the emigration tax. (Although the tax is levied equally on all emigrating Germans, irrespective of race, the bulk of the proceeds has come from Jews, some 150,000 of whom have left Germany since the Nazis came to power in 1933.)
