A CONFLICT BETWEEN THE JEWS OF FLORENCE WAS AVERTED BY THE DECISION OF THE BOARD OF THE JEWISH COMMUNITY TO REMOVE THE WOMEN CHORISTERS FROM THE CHOIR OF THE GREAT TEMPLE. THE PRESENCE OF WOMEN IN THE CHOIR PROVOKED STRONG PROTESTS FROM THE MORE ORTHODOX MEMBERS OF THE JEWISH COMMUNITY.
