A request that Israel open a consulate in the Miami, Fla., area has been forwarded to Israeli Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett by Rep. George A. Smathers, Democrat of Florida, it was revealed today.
In a letter to Mr. Sharett, Rep. Smathers wrote: “An Israeli consulate in the Miami area could render great service not only to people of south Florida, but to travelers from the Latin American countries. I am sure that the establishment of such a consulate would also result in tremendous benefits to the state of Israel.”
