Following an appeal by Chief Rabbi Moses Rosen to the Ministry of Education, the government has issued instructions to all schools in the country, granting Jewish students exemption from written work on Saturdays or Jewish religious holidays, if the students request it.

This is the first time such a measure has been ordered on a country-wide ?asis. In the past the administration has refused preferential treatment for Orthodox Jews attending state schools.
