President Ford has ruled out any possibility of sending American forces into Lebanon or in the Middle East as part of a UN peacekeeping force. “We have no plans at all to send American troops into Lebanon, none whatsoever,” the President said last Thursday at one point in a brief discussion in a television interview at Butler University in Indiana. Later, at another point, he said “I don’t think the United States should participate in a peacekeeping force in the Middle East. The minute you do that, you get the Russians in and I don’t think you should have the United States or the Russians there.”
