President Ford said today that the momentum for an Arab-Israeli peace settlement must continue but he did not believe a Middle East peace conference would be held this year.
“It is not likely that there would be a Geneva Conference this year,” Ford said in response to questions on CBS-TV’s “Face The Nation” program. “I don’t rule it out entirely, but it is not likely.”
The President stressed that if the Mideast momentum is stopped “the pot begins to boil again. So we are trying to deal bilaterally urging other nations to get together, to move forward.” (See related story on page 4.)
