The House Foreign Affairs Committee adopted today and incorporated into the Foreign Aid Bill for the new fiscal year an amendment to provide $40 million designated for desalination in Israel in keeping with United States commitments under the Johnson Administration.
The amendment was offered by Rep. Benjamin Rosenthal, New York Democrat. The legislation became necessary when it was learned that the Nixon Administration had dropped from the budget an item inserted by the outgoing Johnson Administration earmarking the same amount for desalination in Israel. The program would provide both electrical power and water in keeping with the feasibility studies carried out jointly by American and Israeli experts.
