Foreign Aid Legislation Awaits Nixon’s Signature; $50m in Economic Support to Israel, Up to $300m in

The Senate has approved the last step in the foreign aid legislation by a vote of 45 to 36 and has sent the measure to the White House to be signed into law by President Nixon. The House had previously approved the measure by 213 to 167. The Senate action took place Thursday afternoon. The legislation, which calls for appropriations totaling $3,189,437,000, carries a grant of $50 million in economic support to Israel and also authorizes the President to provide Israel with military sales credits of up to $300 million for this fiscal year which ends June 30. In addition, Israel will share in a fund of $20 million for American-authorized schools and hospitals abroad.
