More than 2,000 teachers and scholars from colleges and universities throughout the nation, attending the fifty fifth annual meeting of the Modern Language Association of America, unanimously passed a resolution yesterday expressing opposition to racial, religious and political discrimination. They resolved that the association, as a body of “scholars and teachers devoted to the advancement of research, makes no discrimination of persons on the basis of racial, religious or political preferences,” and “regards such discrimination as disadvantageous to its free, unbiased and cooperative endeavor to discover and disseminate truth.”
