Israel Foreign Minister Abba Eban today met with Under Secretary of State George W. Ball and discussed with him the present problems of Israel in general terms. He may meet tomorrow with Secretary of State Dean Rusk, but State Department sources indicated today that developments involving Viet Nam may necessitate cancelation of that appointment. Yesterday, the State Department tendered a luncheon in honor of Mr. Eban.
Meanwhile Vice-President Hubert H. Humphrey today canceled a meeting scheduled for tomorrow with Mr. Eban because President Johnson decided that he should leave at once for a visit to South Viet Nam and other Southeastern Asian nations. Administration sources said that the crisis in Southeast Asia eclipsed the Near Eastern situation and that Mr. Eban is being received in Washington against that background. Highly-placed State Department sources said that the Near East is relatively stable and that Israel has no reason for anxiety about any immediate Arab threats.
