A Foreign Ministry official today assured student delegates that the British Government was keeping a close watch on the situation in Poland where university students and faculty members, mostly Jewish, will soon face secret trials for alleged responsibility for the Polish student uprising last March. Goronwy Roberts, Minister of State at the Foreign Office, received the group which represented the National Union of Students and the World Union of Jewish Students, among others. He reiterated the Government’s position on human rights and religious freedom. A spokesman for the students said they were pleased with the courtesy extended them in contrast with the curt dismissal they received at the Polish Embassy when they requested an audience with the ambassador last week.
