A British Foreign Office spokesman, commenting on a week-and report emanating from Lausanne that Britain has altered its Middle East policy in favor of Israel’s position in the present peace negotiations with the Arab states, said the report was “cleverly-contrived” but was “not bossed on fact.”
An authoritative source insisted today that Britain does not pursue a policy of its own regarding a settlement of the Palestine conflict. He pointed out that Britain is not a member of the U.N. Conciliation Commission and added that the British Government joined the Commission’s economic survey mission “merely to ensure greater coordination in Anglo-American policies and to help, by virtue of her experiences in the Middle East, in the survey.”
