The Foreign Office today declined to support a statement attributed to a British spokesman at Lake Success that Britain is not bound by the recommendations which the United Nations may make on Palestine.

“If such a statement was said, it was wrongly said,” a Foreign Office official declared. He added that the reputed spokesman of the British delegation at Lake Success had no authority to make any such statement.

At the same time, the official refused to commit Britain to the view that the British Government would be bound by the decision of the United Nations. “I am not prepared to make any statement to that effect at this time,” he told representatives of the press.
