William G. A. Ormsby-Gore, Colonial Secretary, denied in Commons today that foreign Arab rulers had received any promises or concessions from the Palestine Government in return for appealing to the Holy Land Arabs to end their general strike.
Replying to an interrogation from Col. Josiah Wedgwood, Laborite, Mr. Ormsby-Gore said that neither High Commissioner Sir Arthur Grenfell Wauchope nor the Palestine Government had asked the Arab kings for assistance in advance.
The four Arab rulers of neighboring countries spontaneously intimated their willingness to use their influence in the interests of peace and the Government replied there was no objection provided their appeal was unconditional, the Colonial Secretary declared.
