Forests Planted in Israel in Honor of Pennsylvania Governor, 25 Mayors

One thousand persons from all parts of Pennsylvania gathered here to pay tribute to Governor and Mrs. George Leader, prior to their departure for Israel and Dhonor 25 mayors and other prominent Pennsylvanians in whose name forest had been planted in the Leader Woodland in Israel by their communities. It was reported that 10,000 trees had already been subscribed to in the Woodland.

Addressing the gathering. Mayor David Lawrence, of Pittsburgh, called upon the United States to rectify the imbalance in arms in the Middle East. He asserted that Israel should be given the tools with which to defend herself and to protect what he termed democracy’s vital flank. Other participants in the program included Philadelphia’s Mayor Richardson Dilworth Lt. Governor Roy Furman, State Senator Israel Stiefel, William H. Sylk, Fredric R. Mann and Lawrence G. Horwitz.
