Premier-designate Yitzhak Shamir informed President Chaim Herzog today that he has completed the task of forming a new coalition. This announcement has no formal significance since the new government will not become official until it is inaugurated in the Knesset at a special meeting scheduled for Monday.
Shamir’s announcement followed the latest round of talks with the Likud coalition partners. He met today with representatives of the Tehiya Party and assured them that their position in favor of fostering settlements in the West Bank are identical with those of the new government which will continue the policy of the outgoing government.
Shamir said that the new government’s goal is to settle some 100,000 Jews in Judaea and Samaria in the next few years.
