Karl Friedrich Noell, a former German Army captain, has been sentenced to three years in jail in the war-time massacre of 60 to 150 Jewish men, women and children as alleged Soviet partisans.
The execution of the Jews took place in a town near Smolensk in the winter of 1941. All the Jews in the town have been killed on an order issued by Noel and carried out by his company sergeant Emil Zimber. The sergeant was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment.
