Former Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres called for the establishment of a Palestinian state during a speech before the more than 1,000 delegates gathered for the annual conference of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs. “We shouldn’t postpone it,” Peres told the enthusiastic delegates. His speech kicked off the three-day conference in Washington, which is scheduled to include a speech later this week by Vice President Al Gore.
