The Jewish Agency announced today that some 2,000 acres of the former “no-man’s land” in the Latrun area will be divided between seven hill villages and two kibbutzim in the district, which lies on the main route between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Part of the land will go to the new village of Modiim established on the site of an abandoned Arab village.
The Jewish Agency’s agricultural department disclosed that it has drawn up development plans for 22 settlements and one township in the Golan Heights of Syria. The plan includes 10 existing settlements. According to Brit, organ of the kibbutz movement, there are at present 11,400 acres af arable land in the Golan Heights, and the Jewish Agency is planning to reclaim an additional 25,000 acres for agriculture. Another bulletin, Yediot, published by the moshav (small-holders) movement, said plans have been completed for the establishment of more settlements in the northern Sinai and along the Jordan Valley.
