Former Mayor Eugene H. Lehman of Tarrytown has accepted the chairmanship of the Westchester County Executive Committee that has been formed to raise funds for German Jewish relief, it was announced by the United Jewish Appeal yesterday, following a meeting held at the home of Nathan Straus Jr. at Valhalla, White Plains.
The decision to form a county branch of the United Jewish Appeal, which represents the Joint Distribution Committee and the American Palestine Campaign, was made by representatives of the Jewish communities of White Plains, Scarsdale, Mt. Vernon, New Rochelle, Yonkers, Portchester, Mamaronec and Tarrytown, who attended the conference. Mr. Straus is chairman of the American Palestine Campaign for Greater New York.
Members of the County Executive Committee, in addition to Mr. Lehman, are Henry de Sola Mendes, for New Rochelle; William Goldsmith, for Yonkers; Charles Ress, for Mt. Vernon; P. Irving Grinberg, for White Plains; William Ravner, for Scarsdale; Judge Samuel Pines, for Peekskill; Charles Miller, for Portchester; and I. Kadis, secretary.
