Rabbi Elias Gamze, formerly chacham of the Sephardic Congregation of Mexico City, was elected rabbi of the Chicago Loop Orthodox Synagogue.
Rabbi Gamze is known for his intensive work in the organizing of a strong Jewish community in Mexico City. Because of his linguistic ability, he was of invaluable service to the Hebrew Immigrant Aid and Sheltering Society in Mexico, where Jews from every part of the world are now flocking. It was through his efforts that the B’nai B’rith was organized in Mexico.
