The State Secretaryship in the Lower Saxony Ministry of Social Welfare, vacated by the ouster last month of Dr. Walter Auerbach, has been filled with a man who was in charge of propaganda in the Nazi farm organization, Herr H. Deetjen.
Dr. Walter Auerbach, a veteran trade union official and one of German’s foremost authorities on social work as well as social insurance, was the only Jew among the approximately 100 cabinet ministers and state secretaries in West Germany. His brother is the later Dr. Philipp Auerbach, the postwar leader of German Jewry who was driven to suicide three years ago.
