Hermann Klenner, whose wartime membership in the Nazi Party was exposed by Israel two years ago, has finally been replaced as representative of the East German Democratic Republic on the United Nations Human Rights Commission here.
Israel informed the Commission two years ago that Klenner joined the Nazi Party on April 20, 1944 and produced his membership card number, 9756141. Nevertheless, he continued to represent East Germany on the 43-member body and was elected one of its three vice presidents last year.
The Commission began its annual debate Monday which will continue through March 13. High on the agenda is the human rights situation in the Israel-occupied Arab territories “including Palestine.”
