A former Soviet Ambassador to Great Britain has sent a telegram of condolences from Moscow on the death here last Friday of Sydney S. Silverman, Labor MP who was a life-long Zionist and champion of Jewish causes. The telegram, from Ivan Maisky, who served as Ambassador in London from 1932 to 1943, was addressed to Dr. Horace King, speaker of the House of Commons It read in part: “Most sincere condolences on the passing of Silverman, one of the most distinguished members of Parliament. I always greatly valued his noble work for the cause of peace and Anglo-Soviet friendship.”
