Fred Elton Waller, former American Consul at Haifa, has assumed duties at the State Department here as officer in charge of the “office of Palestine, Israel and Jordan affairs.”
Mr. Waller, a native of Washington county, Pa., served as consul and principal officer at Haifa from October. 1949, to December, 1951, when he returned to the United States. His post at Haifa was considered important because of the maritime, commercial, and industrial activities in the area of Israel’s leading port. Mr. Waller has been with the State Department since 1928 and has a record of foreign service at Moscow, Lille, Nantes, Paris, Newfoundland, Montreal, Milan and Haifa.
