Former Union County Prosecutor Edward McGrath and Roy Earlman, the present chief of detectives, are charged in federal lawsuits filed here with illegally firing two investigators because they are Jewish. McGrath currently is a Superior Court judge in Elizabeth. The suits, brought by Robert Goldberg and Richard Yontef, charge that both were fired solely because of their religion. This contention was supported by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The two investigators brought the case to the federal agency with assistance from the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith.
