Former Vichy France official Maurice Papon showed the court documents at his trial that he says indicate he was suspected by Vichy authorities of disloyalty. He also said that prior to the war he had been a member of anti- fascist groups. Papon is accused of deporting 1,560 Jews, 223 of them children, when he was secretary-general of the Bordeaux region during World War II.
