Forty French policemen have been shot in Paris by the Nazis and 300 police officials were arrested on the charge that they helped Jews avoid deportation, Andre Philip, Fighting French Commissioner of Labor and the Interior, reported here today.
The raids on Jews in the city of Lyons provoked such indignation among the local French population that the protesting crowds snatched Jews from the hands of the police and took them to hiding places, he said.
