The first of a series of forums to be held throughout the country for the purpose of acquainting the Jewish communities with the proposed plan to convert the American Jewish Conference into a permanent organization was held yesterday in Chicago and Detroit, it was announced here today by the headquarters of the Conference.
The advantages accruing from reorganization of the Conference were outlined at Chicago by Louis Lipsky, chairman of the Conference’s executive committee, and at Detroit by Rabbi Maurice Eisendrath, who headed the committee which drew up the new plan. Both meetings featured spirited discussions by proponents and opponents of the proposal, but no formal action was taken. Approximately 1,000 persons attended the Chicago meeting and several hundred were at the Detroit gathering. Similar discussions will be held in Cleveland next Sunday and in Minneapolis the following Tuesday.
