A Haifa Magistrate’s court today found David Ben-Haroush, self-styled leader of North African immigrants, guilty of organizing the July disturbances in Haifa and of using a gun against a policeman. He was sentenced to two years in prison.
Mr. Ben-Haroush was sentenced to 11 months for shooting and 13 months on the other charge. Yaakov Maman, an aide, was given a nine-month sentence and two other defendants were given six months terms each.
Mr. Ben-Haroush announced that he would appeal his conviction. The court rejected his demand for release on bail pending the outcome of the planned appeal. He heads a North Africa Immigrants ticket in the November elections for the Knesset. He will be released if he is elected.
