Four thousand Ukrainian refugees, mostly Jews, have been concentrated by Roumanian authorities near Bendery, according to reports to the “Iswestia”, here. The refugees are being forced across the frontier at the River Dniester, despite the imminent danger of their being shot by the Soviet guards of the border for illegal crossing, it is asserted by the Soviet paper.
The Roumanian Government, too, according to the “Iswestia, has ignored the Russian proposal to admit into Roumania a Red Cross Commission for the purpose of facilitating the legal repatriation of the refugees.
At Tiraspol, where a meeting was arranged between Russian and Roumanian representatives to consider the refugee situation at the Dniester, the Russians insisted the Soviet Government would never permit this irregular reevacuation of refugees whom the Roumanian government rejects.
