Fourteen labor unions in the State of New Jersey this week purchased a total of $442,500 in State of Israel bonds. The occasion was a dinner in honor of Richard P. Donovan, director of the Labor Participation Department, AFL-CIO., Welfare Federation of Newark and president of the Essex-West Hudson Labor Council, AFL-CIO, who was designated New Jersey’s Labor Man of the Year.
Peter W. Weber, business manager of Operating Engineers, Local 825, announced that the pension and welfare fund of his union local had purchased $150,000 in Israel bonds in honor of Mr. Donovan. Joseph Madden, business manager and financial secretary of Heavy & General Construction Laborers Union, Local 472, announced the purchase of a $100,000 Israel bond by its pension and welfare fund. The 12 other labor unions purchased between $30,000 and $5,000 worth of bonds each.
