France will oppose any change of frontiers in the Middle East executed by force and it will oppose any “anschluss” among Iraq, Syria and Jordan, a spokesman for the French Foreign Ministry declared today.
The spokesman revealed that France had proposed to Washington and London a three-power meeting to discuss the tripartite declaration of 1950 in which the frontiers of the present Middle East states were guaranteed against aggression. He said that the French opposition to an “anschluss” had been made clear to both the United States and British Governments.
