The French government condemned Israel’s commando raids on terrorist headquarters in Beirut and called them a threat to the sovereignty of Lebanon.” The French position was stated by Foreign Minister Michel Jobert at a Cabinet meeting Friday. His statement said, “The French government…deplores the grave events in Beirut which threaten the sovereignty of Lebanon to which France is especially attached.”
Joseph Comiti, the Minister in charge of relations with Parliament, told the press after the meeting that the Middle East conflict and the succession of violence will worsen if no progress is achieved towards a settlement along the lines of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 242 keeping in mind the situation of the Palestinian people.
