The French Government has denied reports from London that it has agreed to sell Israel a group of Mystere IV jet fighter planes. A spokesman for the Ministry of Defense said last night that “no contract has been signed and none is projected.”
A similar denial has been made by the Israel Embassy here. Nonetheless, informed sources say that Israel-French talks have been held on the sale of military planes to Israel, probably the Mystere IV’s, which are very fast and deadly. The French Foreign Ministry insists that France has and will observe the spirit and the letter of the Tripartite Declaration of 1950.
