The French Government will take up officially the situation of the Jews in Algeria and the increasing anti-Semitism there as the result of a report submitted to the Cabinet by a Government commission which has returned from a tour of investigation.
The report on the Jews was announced as important, but no details were disclosed and it is not expected the report will be made public.
The French Government is especially interested in the position of the Jews in Algeria in view of anti-Semitic propaganda being spread by Nazi agents among the Moslems. A number of French papers have published articles reporting agitators urging the population “to throw the Jews and the French into the sea.”
The agitation is assuming a serious character, it is said, not only for the 100,000 Jews, but for the 1,000,000 Frenchmen in the French territory in North Africa.
