A French mission which left Paris last week arrived in Beirut yesterday to confer with Msgr. Thomas J. McMahon, Vatican envoy who is negotiating with the Israeli Government on the problem of in the internationalization of Jerusalem and the Holy Places in Palestine, it was reported here today. The mission, which will later proceed to Israel and the Arab part of Palestine, is composed of Professor Louis Massignon of the College of France, a well-known orientalist, and Prof. Louis Salleron of the Catholic Institute in Paris.
Foreign Minister Robert Schuman today received a cable from the Arab Algerian Committee for the Defense of Palestine demanding the internationalization of Jerusalem and the repatriation of all Palestine Arab refugees. The cable also appealed for French Government aid to the refugees after the 15th of this month, when Red Cross assistance is scheduled to end.
A delegation of the Sephardic Union of France left for Israel aboard the S.S. Kedmah. The body, which is headed by Dr. E. Benvanisti, president of the Union, will spend two weeks studying the life of the Sephardic community in Israel.
Ben Zion Argow, treasurer of the Tel Aviv municipality, who is visiting France, was received at the city hall here by Dr. M. de Vraigne, vice-president of the Paris municipal council. Mr. Argow brought a message of greeting for the people of Paris from the inhabitants of Tel Aviv.
