France’s interior minister created an uproar when he declared that Germany “has not been cured of the derailment that Nazism represented in its history.” Jean- Pierre Chevenement, who also said Germany “still dreams of the Holy Roman Empire,” was reacting to Germany’s recent call for a strong collective government for the European Union.
