Generalissimo Franco, the Spanish Chief of State, recently received a delegation in Madrid of the World Sephardi Federation, a member of the delegation disclosed here today.
The delegation went to Madrid to acquaint Franco with plans for the setting up in Spain and Israel of institutes to further Spanish-Jewish culture. The delegation spokesman said that the Spanish Chief of State expressed his appreciation to Sephardic Jewish communities throughout the world for having preserved with so much care the Spanish language and customs and for their intention to strengthen cultural relations with Spain.
The delegation in turn thanked Franco for the asylum granted to many Jews in Spain during World War II. Earlier Jesus Rubio Garcia-Mina, the Spanish Minister of Education, and key officials of his ministry and of the Foreign Affairs Ministry attended a reception tendered by Denzil Montefiore, president of the World Sephardi Federation.
