PUBLIC CONGRATULATIONS WERE OFFERED TODAY TO ANTI-SEMITIC LAWYERS FOR A VICTORY IN THEIR BAR ASSOCIATION ELECTIONS, BY THE FORMER SPANISH AMBASSADOR TO RUMANIA, PEDRO PRATY SOUTSO, NOW PROPAGANDA AGENT FOR GENERAL FRANCISCO FRANCO, CHIEF OF THE SPANISH REBELS.
THE ANTI-SEMITIC NEWSPAPER PORUNCA VREMI PUBLISHED A LETTER FROM MR. SOUTSO HAILING THE ELECTION OF THE ANTI-SEMITIC NATIONAL CHRISTIAN TICKET IN YESTERDAY’S VOTING FOR DELEGATES FROM THE BUCHAREST BAR ASSOCIATION TO THE CENTRAL UNION OF RUMANIAN LAWYERS.
THE ELECTION WAS HELD WITH DEMOCRATIC CHRISTIAN LAWYERS NOT VOTING, IN PROTEST AGAINST THE METHODS OF CONDUCTING THE POLL, AND WITH JEWISH LAYERS BARRED.
MR. SOUTSO’S LETTER, WHICH IS CAUSING MUCH COMMENT IN DIPLOMATIC CIRCLES, BECAUSE IT IS INTERPRETED AS INTERFERENCE IN RUMANIAN INTERNAL AFFAIRS, STATED IN PART: “I AM CONVINCED OF THE JUSTICE OF YOUR CAUSE AND THE CERTAINTY OF SUCCESS.”
THE JEWISH DAILY, UNSER ZEIT, OF KISHINEFF, WAS BANNED TODAY FOR A MONTH BY THE MINISTER OF INTERIOR. NO REASON WAS GIVEN FOR THE SUSPENSION, WHICH IS BELIEVED TO BE DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE PAPER DID NOT SUPPORT THE GOVERNMENT IN RECENT MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.
