Great Britain’s decision to refer the Palestine problem to the United Nations can be interpreted as “encouraging” only on the condition that the British Government manifest its intention to “throw the full weight of its influence to re-establish the Jewish right of free immigration and free purchase of land in the whole of Palestine,” James G. McDonald, former member of the Anglo-American Committee of Inquiry on Palestine, declared in an address he delivered tonight on the Hotel Astor.
Mr. McDonald, who sailed tonight on the Queen Elizabeth for England to launch the Joint Palestine. Appeal campaign in the British Isles, was the principal speaker at a luncheon tendered in his honor by the Jewish National Fund end the Palestine Foundation Fund. Judge Morris Rothenberg, president of the Jewish National Fund, Dr. Israel Goldatein, national chairman of the United Palestine Appeal, Dr. Emanuel Newmann, member of the American section of the Jewish Agency for Palestine, and Charles Ress, chairman of the Foundation Fund’s administrative committee, were the other speakers at the luncheon.
