Two Jewish youths, participants in the Tel Aviv disturbances of December 9, were freed today on the second day of the trial Eighteen Tel Aviv Jewish boys are on trial for having participated in an illegal demonstration which grew out of a meeting called to protest immigration restrictions against the Jews and the hunt for tourists who overstayed their visas. Police attempted to disperse the demonstrants carrying the Zionist banner and a number of placards succeeding only after several hours of fighting between police and the demonstrators who were joined by many Jews on the streets.
Police inspectors Spector and Krutkoff testified today on the demonstration.
Attorney Kaiserman, defense lawyer, today urged Chief Magistrate Ralph Bodilly to apply article thirty-four of the penal code against the accused instead of article twenty-three. The first provides a maximum penalty of three months imprisonment, while the other carries a penalty of two years imprisonment under the Seditious Offenses Ordinance. The trial will continue tomorrow.
