Violent anti-Zionist sentiment was displayed yesterday by some of the delegates at the fourth congress of the League to Combat Anti-Semitism, which opened its sittings Saturday. The congress, however, after debate, decided to continue its policy of friendly neutrality toward the Zionist movement.
Helmuth von Gerlach, internationally known German pacifist and former editor of the Welt am Montag, who is now a refugee, received a tremendous ovation when he appeared at the congress.
Bernard Lecache was reelected as president of the League.
The League adopted the boycott as the best weapon with which to combat Hitlerism. The congress also decided to create Jewish self-defense groups for the purpose of beating back the anti-Semites.
The congress concluded last night with a banquet at which the noted French statesman, Senator Anatol de Monzie, presided.
