Declaring himself a friend of the Jews, Henry Bourassa, a French-Canadian deputy, expressed pride in the attitude of the Quebec government which passed the law giving the Jews the right to have their own schools, during a debate in the Federal parliament. Next year, he declared, the province of Quebec will celebrate the centenary of the granting of equal rights to the Jews of Canada. “I am proud of the influence of my grandfather in helping to pass the law that gave the Jewish minority the same rights as Catholics and Protestants,” he stated.
