The Court of Appeals at Limoges this weekend reversed a lower court ruling, finding a not guilty verdict and ordering the acquittal of Pierre Poujade, editor of the periodical “French Fraternity. ” He had previously been convicted by the lower court at Lomiges of “virulent anti-Semitism” and of libel, due to some articles printed in his publication.
Protesting the acquittal, the attorney for the Movement Against Racism and anti-Semitism and for Peace told the court that some of Poujade’s words “were similar to the worst anti-Semitic utterances of the Nazis.” The attorney gave notice that he will appeal the appelate court’s ruling to the highest tribunal in France, the Court of Cassation.
