French Governor-general Rushes Back to Algeria

French officials at Constantine, Algeria, hoped tonight to reestablish order shortly as Jules Carde, Governor-General, sped back to that colony to assume personal control of the situation.

Leading personalities of the rival religious groups involved in the Moslem-Jewish clash are assisting the authorities to restore peace and have arranged a truce, dispatches received here state, but all is not yet over.

Both sides sustained casualties, the dispatches add, but the Jews lost far the more heavily.

Fresh outbreaks are expected because, according to the latest advices, the deep antagonism between the two factions is continuing unabated.

A heavy censorship on all news from Constantine has been established by local authorities there and complete details are lacking.

French officials make no secret of the fact that they consider the situation serious, in view of the fact that the desert nomads, who are fierce fighters, may attempt to join in the fighting.

Governor General Carde is expected to persuade the desert tribes to stay out of Constantine.
