The French High Commissioner in Germany announced today the release of 13 German war prisoners held by the French authorities and a reduction of the sentences of five other Nazi prisoners. The commutations were announced in honor of Bastille Day.
This leaves only 46 German war criminals still in French custody in Germany. The commutation and reduction of sentences were based on recommendations of a mixed French-German clemency board. The names of the prisoners involved were not made public.
