French Jewish journalist Eric Rouleau has been appointed France’s Ambassador to Tunisia. As Ambassador, he will also be in charge of French relations with the PLO and the Arab League as both these organizations have their headquarters in Tunis.
Rouleau, 58, a veteran Le Monde correspondent, has been covering the Middle East for the last 20 years and is considered a specialist on the subject. Born in Egypt, Rouleau first worked for the French news agency Agence France Presse and joined Le Monde in 1962. Jewish organizations in France and Israeli diplomats have often accused him of being anti-Israeli and biased in his writings.
